The Cincinnati location has a cozy taproom, built for conversations, good times, and great beer.
The outstanding feature is a stand-alone bar, where patrons can sit on both sides. This provides a unique perspective for folks who are used to sitting side-by-side at a bar with the bartender on the other side. The bar is placed conveniently next to the free popcorn and salted in the shell peanuts, providing easy access to everyone’s favorite bar snacks.
There is also an outdoor beer garden which allows patrons to take advantage of good beer in good weather. The most popular times for the beer garden are when the weather allows the garage door to the taproom to be open as well, giving patrons a bigger-seeming taproom and a shorter walk to refill their pints.
Two TVs provide patrons with something to view, but an even more popular item is the record player. A generous collection of working vinyl albums allows customers to play hits from their youth – or even before their youth in some cases! Patrons are also welcome to bring in their own records to share their music with fellow Bad Tom Smith and music fans.
Twelve taps provide Bad Tom Smith’s staple beers, like Bad Tom Brown, Breathitt County Blonde, and Fink Red Rye, in addition to unique styles like Doc’s Kentucky Common and Hazy River NE IPA and seasonal offerings like Wickked Sheryl’s Blush Pale Ale and Cheating the Gallows Pumpkin Ale. They will also occasionally feature collaboration beers and test batches for patrons to provide feedback.
But the best part of the taproom will be the people.
Patrons love that the taproom has the neighborhood bar feel, and the staff loves that they can connect personally with the patrons.
“That’s what’s really important, the patron having a direct connection to the people serving the beer,” said John Vojtush, managing partner of Bad Tom Smith. “How often do you get to share something with someone who makes the beer or can tell you something extra about the beer? Our people, from brewers to managers to servers, will all bring a perspective and an energy that will be imparted to the patrons, and create a synergy between them.”
“The story of Bad Tom Smith, the outlaw, is a story of redemption, ultimately, and that’s a great story,” Vojtush added. “We want to always have a story to tell – and to create – in our taprooms!”
